7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 MkII Canon EOS-R-Mount | APS-C | Portraits with considered framing

Portraits can feel naturally composed, with enough working distance to focus on expression and framing. The 7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 MkII is a manual-focus prime for APS-C cameras with a Canon RF mount, and its 60mm focal length makes it a natural fit for portraits as well as close-up subjects. The f/2.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work with a softer background, while manual focus lets you make deliberate adjustments when placing a detail sharply. Its best suited to patient photography: portraits where you can direct your subject, or small subjects where careful focus matters more than speed. As an APS-C lens, its designed around that sensor format rather than full-frame coverage. If you enjoy taking time over focus and composition, this is a straightforward, purpose-led lens to consider.

Framing and focus

The estimated 27 angle of view gives a fairly tight frame, which can help keep attention on a portrait or a small subject. For close-up work, make small focus adjustments and check the detail you want to keep sharp; with manual focus, that point is yours to place rather than something the camera chooses for you.

Specialist Note

f/2.8 gives you a practical way to soften the background in a portrait, especially when you keep your subject apart from whats behind them. Id start by focusing carefully on the nearer eye, then make small framing adjustments before taking the picture. The manual focus suits still subjects and deliberate close-up work, where you can take a moment to settle the sharpness; its less convenient if your subject is moving quickly. This lens suits someone who enjoys that hands-on pace. For a portrait, try it wide open; for a tiny detail, stop down if you need more of the subject in focus.
