SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 2TB: Move large files quickly

Slow transfers can hold up a shoot, an edit or the handover of finished files. The SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 2TB pairs 2TB of portable storage with stated read and write speeds of 2,000 MB/s. Its made for keeping sizeable photo and video files close at hand, then moving them between locations without relying on a much slower storage drive. Use it to carry a current selection of images to an edit, transfer a batch of files after a shoot, or keep a larger working archive together on one compact drive. The capacity is useful when a small stick of storage wont cover a project, while the speed is the headline for moving heavy files such as high-resolution images and video. This is a solid-state drive rather than a spinning hard disk, and SanDisk specifies NVMe performance for this model. Its also intended to travel: the compact, lightweight design and built-in keyring point to storage that can go along with your kit instead of staying on a desk. For image files that shouldnt be left open to anyone who finds the drive, password protection adds another layer of privacy.

Highlights

• NVMe solid-state performance: SanDisk specifies NVMe technology for this portable SSD. Thats relevant when youre shifting large folders of images or video, where a slow transfer can interrupt the flow between capture and editing.
• IP55-rated protection: The drive is rated for resistance to dust and water, and is described as shock-resistant. That added protection is useful when storage travels in a camera bag or is handled away from a tidy desk; its still sensible to treat any portable drive with care.
• Password protection and 256-bit AES encryption: Hardware-based encryption protects stored files, with password protection controlling access. Its a useful privacy feature for a drive that may carry client images, personal photos or project files between places.
• Room for up to 200,000 photos: SanDisk gives this as an approximate capacity illustration for the 2TB drive. The number of images you can store depends on their file sizes, but the estimate gives a sense of how much material the drive is intended to hold.
• Built-in keyring: A keyring attachment gives you a simple way to secure the SSD to a suitable loop or clip on your bag. That keeps portable storage close by while youre moving between a location and your workstation.
• Compact and lightweight: Its small, light form is convenient when youre packing storage alongside other equipment. It takes up little space in a bag, so carrying a working set of files doesnt mean bringing a bulky drive.
